Question by Shelby: How do you train a 9 month old puppy to go potty outside?
I have a little half pomeranian and half chihuahua. He sleeps in a crate 8 hours a day and at night. Then is outside a lot but he somehow gets in and want to pee and poop inside on my red rug. How can I teach him to always go outside? Please help me!

You should have a regular schedule of feeding and going outside, and when you do go outside( i know it sounds weird but it worked with my dogs) say to them “outside” each time you go out. Reward them with a treat if they do something outside. discipline them by showing them what they did and then put them outside. leave them out only as long as the temperature outside isn’t to cold. Also put paper down or pee pads.

No worries! This is VERY, VERY common with puppies! The thing you have to know is that puppies usually have to pee every 10 minutes, after eating or drinking. When you notice your puppy eat wait 8 minutes an take her/him outside. If the puppy walks around an doesn’t go don’t worry. Walk out into the yard an walk with her an repeat the word “potty”. Or rub your puppies bladder GENTLY, an repeat the word again. If this doesn’t work, bring the puppy back inside an keep her in the same room as you. If she starts to whine that might mean she has to go, or if she wonders off it might mean the same thing. Also when your puppy goes potty on the floor, make a loud noise such as a clap, an add a word to it like “no” or “at”. Scold your puppy then kennel it, clean up its potty an wait 5 to 10 minutes, then let the puppy out. Take her outside first an stay out with her for 5 or 6 minutes, then let her back in. Just follows these steps an it should work out! I just got a puppy an i’ve been doing this so far, no mess ups so far :3

Good luck! An love your puppy, they always grow up fast!
