Q&A: Do you wear shoes inside your home?

Question by Minni: Do you wear shoes inside your home?
I t grew up leaving my shoes at the door. My mother had a mat just inside the door for everyone to put their shoes. We could wear socks or go barefoot while in the house. Our entire house was carpeted, except the bathrooms that had tile and area rugs. As an adult I still do that and friends and family automatically remove their shoes. The only folks who don’t are contractors. I hate that they don’t but I can’t ask them to remove their shoes while working. I just try to cover the area where they are working with drop cloths or newspapers if I can. What do you do in your home? Shoes or no shoes?

I don’t like to wear shoes in my house or someone elses house. Just doesn’t feel right. I have a few friends that say I should just leave my shoes on, but I will usually take them off unless the floor does not look very clean or we are going out into their backyard.

What do you think? Answer below!

The same as your mother-we don’t want that crap off the street, yard coming into the house.

Shoes bring all the dirt, pollen, and contaminants into the house so it’s best to take em off in the house.

I have those plastic over shoes, (Like they wear in the operating theater).
And people just pop them on over their shoes, job done.
    No embarrassment at all.
When you think of what we walk on out in the street, where people spit (who may have T.B.) Dogs poo, too many germs to list here.
So no to shoes, but a big YES to overshoes.

As a general rule I slip out of my shoes and into slippers (that are only worn inside) when I’m in the house on my carpeted areas. I can walk from front to back on the hardwood floors though, and sometimes do in my shoes, but I try to avoid walking on the carpet as much as possible in my outdoor shoes.

However, if I have a guest or two over who keep their shoes on, I don’t freak out about it.

Usually change into slippers or have soft rubber soled shoes on. A good contractor should cover the floors with tarps before starting work.

No shoes for me. I have new beige carpet throughout my apartment and new linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom. It feels good to walk on new carpet in your sock feet.

Of course, even when I had old carpet, I still took my shoes off at the door. I just find it more comfortable to walk sockfoot indoors, even at other people’s houses.

I think it’s a little odd to wear shoes inside your own house. They do it on TV all the time though. They even lay on the sofa or on the bed with their shoes on!!

    I’m always barefoot at home.

Whether visitors remove their shoes is up to them, but when they see my bare feet they usually do.
