The standard size is anywhere from about 5 x 8 feet to about 10 x 12 feet. If you have a smaller rug, you can place it centered out in front of a sofa or whatever, and then center the table on that. If you have a larger rug, there’s nothing wrong with having part of the rug underneath the sofa and out far enough so that you can place the table on it and have it look right.
