Question by question_guy: Is a Persian Rug something you can appraise online, and if so, where?
My Grandpa had an antique Persian Rug he obtained when he was stationed in Iran during WWII. It has gold and silver thread throughout, and I’ve taken several pictures of it with my digital camera, but don’t know where to go to find more information about the age, style, or value of the rug. If anyone has some ideas, they would be much appreciated.

I am a rug dealer and a rug dealer in your area would be your best option. Unfortunately pictures can be very misleading. From pictures you can not judge condition, color, or overall quality. Only someone who sells rugs will be able to help with value. Someone who only appraises may be knowledgeable about the general quality but will not be as accurate with a value. There are also two types of values. Replacement value is the price you would need to pay to replace the rug, resale value is the amount you would get for the rug should you sell your rug. They will be very different prices.
