Question by hottie87: What can I do to make his place look more like a home?
My boyfriend’s apartment is a mess and we don’t have big budget to work with. He doesn’t have a bed frame or a headboard. He has really ugly couches. So what can I do to make his place look better withut spending too much money? I got him a little area rug, and a nice mirror. We are gonna go shopping and I really wanna help him. So what can Ido to make it look prettier what about wallpaper. Pretty muchhow to make it look nicer and homier without spending too much money?

Find out if you can paint the apartment. That will make the biggest difference. Use a tan shade to warm it up. Don’t use any of the deep rich colors like red because they are horrible to try to repaint when you get ready to move out. No wallpaper. Get slipcovers for the ugly sofas. Get some trendy pictures for the walls. Clean out all the junk, too. Paint will be your biggest improvement. Check with the landlord first.

If you can paint, I agree that would be a big step. If he can’t afford slipcovers for the couches, I would look to get some cheap discount fabric or king size sheets (off the clearance table) to use as slipcovers. It would be a tuck job, but if they really need to be covered…..

Again, if you can paint, you can paint on a “headboard”. Or get a wooden door, turned on its side. Stain it or paint it and mount that as a headboard. Check out thrift stores for some odds and ends, like lamps, vases, picture frames, and wall art. You could use pictures of him, you, his family to make it feel homier.

Also, you could check out Wonderful Graffitti or Wallies for easily removable wall writing and cut-outs. I wouldn’t do wallpaper.

step one: clean up the clutter!! go to a discount or used furn store and you should be able to pick up a frame for about 30 bucks…try BIG lOTS for cheep artwork…pick three colors that you want to use( for a man a nice milk choch brown or black is great!) and then maybe a funky blue/green and taupe or beige and go from there. You can make a headboard for pretty cheep too…go to the big web sights for Ideas. I hope this helps when picking colors always pick the furniture or if bedroom , your bedding first then decorate around it!
