Question by baseball435star213: What color should I paint my room?
I’m a 14 year old boy who like sports. (not sure if that helps) I wanted to paint it red with a black rug, but my parents said no to the rug.
I don’t want to do it blue or light green because those are the colors of my brothers rooms.

What about dark blue walls and a white or red rug?

A black rug will show up all the lint and fuzz really bad and it will look like a mess all the time. Gray would probably look better and you won’t have to vacuum it every day.
Or you could make it a green rug like grass (ball field look).
Rugs are very expensive and last a long time so if you go with a neutral color it will always look good if you decide to change the color of your walls.
You could use the black on other things in your room like blankets and sheets, curtains.

you could go for a dark blue rug maybe. or, you could get light blue walls and a red rug. or, an even different direction, green walls, blue rug.

You could still paint it red, and maybe go with a different color carpet. You could still bring black in with accessories, shelving, have some black in your bedding (maybe a red, white and black or red, gray and black color scheme).

Red, camel or sand, and black look great together. If you use red, I’d consider using something a bit more muted than spectrum red — slightly toward a brick red. It’s a bit less harsh. Also, consider painting three walls tan (maybe the same as the carpet you choose) and do an accent wall in the red. Then you can use the same red as accents with a throw or pillows on your bed, in your artwork, etc. My nephew (also 14) is way into sports. He wanted a more adult room than he had, so we painted it tan with white trim and used denim black and brown (leather like a glove) for his bedding. He has black accents including black and white photos of baseball greats framed in matching black frames with large white mats. We also painted a catcher on one wall and used baseballs as finials on his curtain rod. It looks really nice and isn’t juvenile at all.
You could do something similar highlighting the sports and accent colors that you like best. Do you have a favorite team? That’d be another thing to consider when choosing your colors.

I just decorated my 14 yr old son’s room recently and he wanted black walls, with black furniture, and some red somewhere. I said no to black walls and painted his room a silvery metallic paint with a textured roller to give it an even cooler look! Then I did his room in black furniture with a few red accents all for under $ 300 and he and his friends think his room “rocks” so ask your parents if they will help you come up with a compromise you can both live with! Good Luck : )

oh dont go with a black rug. you have good parents 🙂 lol.. i have a black rug and it’s the worst. go for a dark color.. like a deep red, navy blue or a gray maybe? and maybe white trim.

Red makes your room look smaller I’ve heard. But it would also look cool. Why don’t you get another accessory that’s black but not a rug?
I think it would be cool to have a skateboard mounted on the wall as a decoration.

hmmm… red painted will look good as long as you dont paint them all over the room – u’ll kill your self .. red tends to give pressure your emotion- bring anger

if ur parents say no with black rug, then take dark grey rug to replace it- it goes with red color too

I can see why your parents said no to the black rug it shows everything. Try using bath rugs in black around your bed and in this way you can get the look and your parents will be much happier. Paint the walls red and use black white and red bedding.
