These rugs were made in Tabriz, the capital of the Northwestern province of this tiny country, which has, for long been the centre or the culture capital of Persia. Shah Abbas, the Great, the ruler under whom Persian art and culture flourished like never before was a great patron of weaving and Tabriz rugs were all the rage during his time.
