Question by danielle e: Why does my dog poo in the exact same spot?
Whenever my dog takes a dump in the house, she does it on the exact same spot on my mom’s Persian rug. My mom scolds her but for some weird reason she just doesnt get it. My dog isn’t stupid, so why the hell does she do it?

It is a territorial thing dogs do.

Dogs are drawn to potty in spots they’ve done so before…to help with your situation, when the carpet is clean and dry in the area where the dog poops, wipe it with a bit of white vinegar…that will help remove all traces of poop scent so the dog won’t be as drawn to that exact spot…that’s not to say he won’t crap on the carpet again, but he’ll be less apt to do it in that same spot…

Keep working on housebreaking the dog…my trainer’s motto is “if ya can’t make it out, ya take it out” and she suggests taking a bit of the poo or pee in a bit of toilet tissue, and making the dog carry it outside in its mouth (he doesn’t have to chew it, just carry it) and then when s/he’s outside where it’s okay to potty, remove the tissue and reinforce that the dog should “potty outside”…I only did it once to my pup, and she didn’t potty inside any more (she was well along in her housebreaking at that point anyway)…she had 1 other accident inside, and it was my fault for bringing her in before she’d finished her business (i just didn’t realize it until it was too late…my bad)…

Dogs tend to poo/pee in the same area until the smell is no longer there. You will have to catch her in the act to have the dog get the message. Scolding her she walks away from it will not get the message across. Always keep your dog on a leash and look for the signs of her wanting to go to the bathroom. If she is a puppy, you need to try to predict when she needs to go. Feed her once or two times a day and judge when she needs to go. If you give her free-feed then you will never know when she needs to go and never solve the problem.
